Camp Mugs Compared (2026): Enamel vs Stainless vs Titanium vs Insulated, 11 Mugs
Disclosure. Ridgebrew sells five of the eleven mugs below. We wrote this comparison. Competitor details come from each maker's own page or a named review, linked in the sources section, and were checked on September 30, 2026. Metric conversions we did ourselves are marked "about"; "not published" means the maker doesn't state it.
Quick answer. First decide one thing: does the mug need to go on a stove or fire? - Yes: choose a single-wall mug. That means enamel, stainless or single-wall titanium. - No, you want coffee to stay hot: choose vacuum-insulated, and never put it on heat.
Among flame-safe mugs: - The Ridgebrew Oil Barrel is the pour-over and AeroPress pick. Its 88 mm mouth holds a size-2 cone at 100 g. - The Snow Peak Ti-Single 300 is the lightest at 50 g.
Among insulated mugs, the Ridgebrew Insulated Camp Mug comes in a 500 ml size, bigger than the 12 oz Stanley and the 14 oz YETI.

Flame-safe vs insulated: the rule that matters
Snow Peak says double-wall titanium "cannot be used for cooking or placed over a heat source", and YETI says the same for all Rambler drinkware. Air or a vacuum between two walls can't take direct flame. So a camp kit usually needs: - one flame-safe mug to heat water or reheat coffee, or - one insulated mug to keep it hot on a cold morning.
Very few people need both in one mug. Decide which job matters more to you.
The Ridgebrew mugs, and the problem each one solves
Oil Barrel (350 ml, 100 g): pour-over and AeroPress without a stand
The pain: in camp, a pour-over cone wobbles on a narrow mug, and there's nowhere to set a dripper. The Oil Barrel's 88 mm mouth seats a size-2 cone and an AeroPress cap directly on the rim. The 1.5 mm stainless wall can sit on coals, and the ridged barrel body gives you something to grip without a handle.
Trade-off: there's no handle, so right after a full boil you'll want a bandana or thin glove. At 100 g it weighs twice as much as the Snow Peak Ti-Single.
Classic Enamel 12 oz: flavor plus a flame-safe claim
The pain: bare metal can taste like metal with light roasts. Enamel is a glass-like liner, so coffee only touches glaze. Ridgebrew states the mug is rated for campfire, propane and gas. GSI's cheaper Pioneer enamel cup doesn't state stove use at all. It comes in five colors, so a group can tell mugs apart.
Trade-off: at $24.99 it costs about three times the GSI Pioneer. Like all enamel, a hard drop can chip it.
Insulated Camp Mug (350 or 500 ml): the big mug that stays hot
The pain: the popular insulated mugs are small. Stanley's Classic Legendary is 12 oz, and YETI's Rambler is 14 oz. The Ridgebrew comes in 500 ml (about 17 oz) for $32.99, which is enough for a full French press pour. It has a 304 stainless liner, a matte powder coat that doesn't sweat, and a wide handle that fits a gloved hand.
Trade-off: like every vacuum mug, it can't go on a stove. A HiConsumption test measured the YETI Rambler losing 5.7°F in 30 minutes. Ridgebrew hasn't published a heat test for this mug.
Folding-Handle Mug (from $16.99): a flame-safe mug that packs flat
The pain: fixed handles snag on pack straps. This mug's handle folds flat against the body. It's single-wall 304 stainless, so it can go on a stove, and the 350 ml size weighs 111 g.
Trade-off: GSI's Glacier 14 oz is cheaper at about $13 and holds a little more.
Titanium Double-Wall (350 ml): glove-friendly titanium
The pain: folding titanium handles are fiddly with gloves. This mug has a fixed, thickened handle, and its seamless inner and outer shells rinse clean easily.
Trade-off: it costs about $5 more than a Snow Peak Ti-Double 450 and holds 100 ml less. Like all double-wall mugs, don't cook in it.

Only a single-wall mug. Enamel, single-wall stainless and single-wall titanium are the usual choices, like the GSI Glacier, the Snow Peak Ti-Single or the Ridgebrew Oil Barrel. Snow Peak and YETI both warn that double-wall or vacuum mugs must not go over a heat source.
