Stainless Steel Drip Bag Coffee Stand

Why it exists

Hanging-ear drip bags are the simplest real coffee you can carry: tear, hang, pour. The catch is the mug. The paper hooks are cut for a tall, narrow cup, and a short or wide camp mug leaves the bottom of the bag sitting in its own brew, steeping in the cup instead of dripping into it. This folding wire stand holds the bag above the mug so the drip stays clean, whether the mug is on a picnic table, a rock, or the kitchen counter.

How it works

Unfold the stand and position it so the frame sits above your mug. Open a hanging-ear drip bag and hook its ears on the wire frame instead of on the cup, so the bag hangs above the brew with air underneath. Pour hot water in slow passes, as you would with a dripper, and let it drain into the mug below. When the bag is spent, lift it off, rinse the stand, wipe it dry, and fold it down for the pack. There is no battery and nothing electronic; it is a shaped piece of 304 stainless wire with coated feet.

It is built around one brew method, hanging-ear drip bags, and it makes that method work with the mugs people actually carry: wide enamel camp mugs, short insulated tumblers, hotel cups, and office mugs. It pairs with our 50-pack of hanging-ear drip bags.

Built for the trail

• Folding wire frame that holds a hanging-ear drip bag above the cup, so the bag never sits in the brew.
• Works with short and wide mugs, not only tall tumblers; the stand supplies the height the paper hooks cannot.
• Coated feet in Black, Dark Blue, or Red, so the stand sits on a table, rock, or picnic board without bare metal on the surface.
• 304 stainless steel wire, a food-contact metal that rinses clean.
• About 18.2 g (0.6 oz), maker's figure; it adds almost nothing to an ultralight kit.
• About 80 × 65 × 83 mm (3.1 × 2.6 × 3.3 in), and it folds down when you pack up.
• Portable, no battery, no electronics; nothing to charge or break.

Best for

Ultralight hikers and bikepackers who carry drip bags instead of a dripper and grounds, office and hotel brewers whose mug is too short or too wide for the bag's paper hooks, and anyone who brews drip bags into a wide-mouth insulated tumbler. It is a one-cup accessory for one method. If you brew with loose grounds and paper filters, you want a dripper, not this stand, and if your mugs are already tall and narrow enough for the hooks, you may not need it.

Honest limits

It does one thing: hold a hanging-ear drip bag. It is not a dripper and will not hold loose grounds or a cone filter. The frame is light wire, so it wants a reasonably level spot and a steady pour rather than a splashy one. The feet are PVC-coated, so keep the stand away from an open flame or a hot stove grate. Rinse and wipe dry; do not leave it wet in the bottom of a pack.
