Why it exists

Paper filters are one more thing to pack, keep dry, and throw away after every pour. This collapsible stainless mesh cone takes paper out of the kit entirely. It rests on a mug or travel tumbler, you pour through it, and you rinse it for the next cup. It brews drip coffee at camp, in the car, in a hotel room, or at the desk, and it holds loose-leaf tea when the coffee runs out.

How it works

Open the folding frame so the arms spread to about 11.8 cm (4.6 in) and rest them across the rim of your mug, camp cup, or travel tumbler. Add ground coffee through the 6.3 cm (2.5 in) opening, pour a little hot water to wet the grounds, wait, then pour the rest in stages the way you would with any pour-over. The stainless mesh holds the grounds while the coffee drips through into the cup beneath. Lift the cone off, drink, and when it has cooled, tap the grounds out, rinse the mesh, and let it dry before you fold it flat. For tea, drop in loose leaves, set it on the cup, and pour; it works as a tea holder as well as a coffee cone.

The cone is about 7.3 cm (2.9 in) tall with the frame open, so it carries a single-mug dose of grounds. Collapsed, it packs with the mug it brews into.

Built for the trail

  • Reusable stainless steel mesh cone. No paper to pack, keep dry, or throw away.
  • Folding frame. Collapses for packing and opens to about 11.8 cm (4.6 in) across the arms.
  • Arms rest across a mug or travel tumbler. Brews straight into the cup you drink from, including a tumbler in a car cupholder.
  • 6.3 cm (2.5 in) opening, about 7.3 cm (2.9 in) tall (maker's figure). Sized for one cup at a time.
  • Drip coffee cone and loose-leaf tea holder. One piece for both.
  • Stainless steel mesh and frame. Tap, rinse, dry, repeat.

Best for

Travelers, desk brewers, van dwellers, and campers who want a pour-over that folds small and never needs a paper filter, and anyone who brews into a travel tumbler in the car or a hotel room. If you want the clean, bright cup that paper gives, or you brew for a group into a carafe, pick our foldable paper-filter drip rack or a larger brewer instead; this is a single-cup mesh cone.

Honest limits

Mesh is not paper. Fine particles and coffee oils pass through metal mesh, so expect a heavier-bodied cup with some sediment at the bottom, and grind a step coarser than you would for paper. The 6.3 cm (2.5 in) opening is modest, so spoon grounds in with some care. Rinsing clears the grounds, but oils build up over time and the mesh will want a deeper clean now and then. The dimensions are the maker's figures; no weight is listed, so we do not state one.

Received as advertised. Great travel coffee brewer.

The filter is very fine, which makes it take longer to pass the coffee and it stays a bit cold. I will try a coarser powder to see if it makes a difference. But it works as advertised in size.

Fine powder does pass through a bit. Doesn't clog and is easy to use It's more convenient than using paper because it filters faster.

Quite a good mesh filter for brewing coffee. It is recommended to use coarse ground coffee.

I haven't used it yet, I just received it, and it looks of excellent quality. The holes are almost microscopic, and I doubt that coffee particles can filter through them. Without having tried it, I recommend it!!!
